About My Course

Welcome to my Silk painting  Course at Center Parcs, Longleat. My name is Jennifer Douglas and I’ve been teaching this activity for 20 years! It has given me a lot of enjoyment to spread the joy of silk painting to so many visitors. The 2 hour session offers  a large selection of design templates which can be traced on to the silk, featuring flowers, birds and animal inspirations. Designs can then be outlined with gutta-serti resist, which prevents the flow of the dyes.

We work in amongst the plants in a tranquil setting, often everyone is  concentrating so hard that there is very little time for chat! I display the silk on sticks and hang them off bamboo poles, which seems the best way to show them in this area. This workshop attracts everyone over the age of 9 years. Ideal for beginners or those who feel they would enjoy giving silk painting a go! It’s such a lovely feeling applying the dye to the silk that confidence quickly grows and often people can surprise themselves with what can be achieved in just 2 hours.

During the workshop I give a demonstration of techniques, showing how to use the dyes, wet on wet, and a variety of special effects you can make with salt. The medium is very forgiving if you make mistakes,  as most can be rectified or camouflaged in the background.

Silk size is 18″ square which gives ample space to try out larger brush work techniques. There’s plenty of opportunity to give lots of help if needed as groups are no bigger than 8.

I’m lucky to work in such a peaceful, inspiring environment.

  • Hi Jennifer, I had a lovely session with you back in October and wished I had purchased one of your kits so I could continue after I got home. Are these only available to buy in person or do you post these out? Many thanks.

  • Dear Jennifer
Thank you so much for the great course on Tuesday. My daughter (13) and I loved making the Peacock and Owl! They turned out brillantly and we are keen to continue. The highlight of our week. Thank you. We would love a kit when they are ready? Thanks
